About the Company

I employ a small team of personal assistants to work with my son, in all areas of his personal, domestic and leisure life, both in his home and in the community. Your role is to enable him to lead an enjoyable, fulfilled, healthy and independent life. My son, who is in his late twenties, has autism and an anxiety disorder and lives in his own flat with 24/7 support.

What does this Personal Assistant job involve?

Personal Requirements: My son is quite independent concerning looking after himself but finds reminders and encouragement, to do this properly, helpful.

Domestic Needs:My son has many independent living skills and should be supported to undertake simple tasks around the flat, with guidance and supervision. You will be responsible for ensuring the following general domestic duties take place:

* General housework, including cleaning, dusting, vacuuming – ensuring the flat is clean and tidy at all times

* Assistance with preparing menus and shopping lists and taking him shopping

* Preparation and cooking of healthy meals and drinks and clearing up

* Assistance with changing bed linen

* Laundry and ironing

General Assistance and responsibilities:

* To help my son with any chosen activity, inside or outside his home,

* Assist with getting to and taking part in social and leisure activities, including: visiting shops and local towns; buying toys, CDs and books; eating out; swimming, walking, cycling, trampoline, cinema; Outdoor Pursuits; Pilates. At home my son plays with his toys and on his computer.

* Respect my son

* Arrive at the agreed time, ready to work

* Give as much notice as possible if you are going to be late or can’t come

* Discuss any problems with the Team Leader and me as soon as possible

* Respect my son’s possessions and use them only with his consent.

* Monitor his spending, to ensure that he lives within his means

* Maintain appropriate records

* You will be expected to follow the guidance provided in my son’s care plan and his Positive Behaviour Support Plan.

* Good standard for English and maths

* NVQ Health and Social Care level 2 or equivalent

* At least one year’s experience of working with adults with Autism and/or Learning Difficulties and Disabilities

* A good level of personal fitness, in order for you to support my son in his activities

* Clean driving licence and the confidence to drive my son to his activities, car is provided. A good knowledge of the local area is an advantage.

* DBS checks

* Appointment is dependent on successful completion of two week induction and three month probation.
